A demo reel is a 50 to 90 second max. video, that is used to give a stylized view of a product, service, or brand. Mainly used to for the viewer to give a visual explanation of what is being offered. The creation process is crucial to the interest of what you’re offering in this video.

Take a look at a few things you should know and take into consideration before you begin your creation process:

  1. Highlight Your Best Work

Don’t just throw anything in your editing program to piece together your demo reel, take some time to go through the work you’ve created and curate the best work, and/or the best work, that is most targeted towards whoever you are trying to showcase your work to. Be sure that what you choose will be the best to represent and highlight who you are and what you can do.

  1. Look out for Length

As mentioned earlier a demo reel should be no longer than 50-90 seconds max. to get your point across to the viewer, your goal is to grab the attention of the within the first few seconds of your video, with the remaining time being used to perfectly highlight specific skills, work or achievements.

  1. Music Selection

Music is an important piece of the puzzle you’ll be piecing together, you’ll need to ensure that proper music selection is part of your creation process. Try to select your music based on the tone and message you’re trying to convey to the audience you’re targeting.

Side note: Remember to avoid copyrighted music

  1. Style

What style will you choose to create your demo?

There are 2 styles that you have to choose from when creating a demo reel:

Collage Style: cut to music and contains footage in rapid succession. Ideal for showcasing short-form work like commercials.

Scene Style: contains segments around 15 seconds in length, and promotes long-form work such as narrative and/or documentary.

  1. Include your Contact Info

DO NOT FORGET to add in your contact information once you come to the completion of your reel. It is very easy to forget this small but important step, during the process of developing the reel. Be sure include the owner’s name and contact information at the beginning and end of the reel (The name of the individual or the company)

  1. Review and Showcase

You’ve completed the process, and created your demo reel, its time to show it off. Make sure that once you’ve finished editing you take a look at the work you’ve done to catch any technical glitches or errors. Once you’ve done that you’re ready to showcase your reel.

Side note: Having your video editing real online saves time and energy. Whether on Vimeo(link site) which is free to sign-up an account, YouTube(link site) or your personal website

Die Hard 6, which has been touted as the origin story of Bruce Willis’ wise-cracking action hero of the classic franchise, has a new title. In an interview with the UK movie magazine Empire, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said, “You can tell our intention by the fact that the title page we handed in says, McClane. Deadline originally broke the story in 2015 that the next installment of the franchise was originally put on the drawing board as Die Hard: Year One at Fox with Live Free Or Die Hard helmer Len Wiseman returning. According to the Empire report, the sequel-prequel script features Willis as a 60-year-old McClane with a younger version of McClane in his 20s. Said di Bonaventura, “We want you to get invested in John McClane more than ever before… We are gonna explore John McClane in his twenties. But just as prominent is the 60-year-old version.” The Conjuring‘s Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes wrote the script.

The first Die Hard movie was based on the Roderick Thorp novel Nothing Lasts Forever and was released in 1988. Ever since, it has become an action movie staple and has made Willis’ John McClane a pop culture icon. Wiseman’s return to Die Hard is justified considering he pumped new life into the franchise in 2007 with Live Free Or Die Hard, which grossed $383 million with a $134 million domestic gross. The last installment was in 2013 with the John Moore-directed A Good Day To Die Hard starring Willis and Jai Courtney. Though not a crowd pleaser, the fifth installment grossed just north of $300 million which is enough for the franchise to live on — with McClane.

This new portrait of the 96-year-old actress, who holds the Guinness World Record for the longest television career among female entertainers, harks back to her days in radio and the lesser-known roles that preceded her characters in “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “The Golden Girls.” The documentary also features interviews with a long list of former co-stars, including Georgia Engel, Tina Fey and Ryan Reynolds.
